"Hair and Hats Part 1" Course Description

Have you ever wanted to learn an easy way to draw simple, cartoon portraits?  In this course, we are going to look at developing characters from the shoulders up.   With some direct drawing instruction, we will learn how to observe different hairstyles and hats and simplify them into shapes.  After practicing these guided drawing techniques, we will begin to create characters of our own.

Using scrapbook paper or painted paper we will cut out shapes for hair/hats to create whimsical characters.  And finally,  we will apply our new skills developing a family portrait using both pastels and watercolor.

We learn a Creative Thinking Skill from the  acronym “SCAMPER”, and how by  “C”  Combining two unrelated ideas or things, we can create something new. This course is the first of a two part course.
